Liberation of the body
This project started as a rehearsal, as most of my art works consist of paintings. I first named it ''Rehearsal about my body''. My aim in self-photographing myself was to reflect about different beauty patterns, as I never realized I had a nice body due to the distorted reality that is spread on social media, the ''oh so called'' alluring digital utopias. The naked body as an artistic object in this rehearsal, analyzes the aesthetic challenge of representing the body of a real human person.
I was inspired by the works of Yoko Ono, in which the physical body is always the center of attention. Analyzing her artistic research, it is clear that she always puts emphasis on the human body. Her works, in an elegant artistic way, makes the human body become detached from its own sex, race and age. A human body is only a human body, and it turns into Art in the way Yoko shows it. ''We are forever apologetic for being real. Excuse me for farting, excuse me for making love and smelling like a human being, instead of that odorless prince and princess up there on screen''. Ono, Yoko.
The photo series 'Liberation of the body' is justified as a counterpoint for linear and obvious pictorial narratives. The poetics of my research and artist works aims to avoid archaic aesthetic and social values that had been professed in ancient Greece, and that still dictate the contemporary conception of beauty, elegance, grace, ethic and sanity. In this rehearsal I approached everyday issues of my life not only as an Artist, but also as a human being. I already had experiences with photography during my university years, but never as an own artistic project.
During the research for the photo rehearsal, I peered into my own body, examined my mind, expanded soul, and re-thinked about the meaning of the existence of the human race. We are all the same, and at the same time we have so many differences, but still, we all belong together.
With this self-photographed series I brought up a visual fruition composed by elements of the atmosphere in which I coexist and that infects me.
In my point of view, Art must make up for any social disapproval. It has to go way beyond judgements and trends. Simultaneously, Art must violate the common meaning of the 'word' life. My own emptiness is expressed in this series of photos. All of my work and research is encouraged by an excess of emotions that beg to become materialized. I experienced my human body during the self photo shooting, and alongside it I found myself experiencing a work of Art that got me in order to get myself ready for real life, for the real me. I did things at an estranged and heightened level of representation before I even had realized them ‘for real’. That’s what this project is about.
Libertação do corpo
Este projeto começou como um ensaio, já que a maioria dos meus trabalhos consistem em pinturas. Primeiro o chamei de “Ensaio sobre meu corpo”. Meu objetivo ao me auto-fotografar foi refletir sobre diferentes padrões de beleza, pois nunca percebi que tinha um corpo bonito, devido à realidade distorcida realidade que se espalha nas redes sociais, as chamadas sedutoras utopias digitais. O corpo nu como objeto artístico neste ensaio analisa o desafio estético de representar o corpo de uma pessoa humana real.
Inspirei-me nas obras de Yoko Ono, nas quais o corpo físico é sempre o centro das atenções. Analisando sua pesquisa artística, percebe-se que ela sempre dá ênfase ao corpo humano. Suas obras, de forma artística e elegante, fazem com que o corpo humano se desvincule de seu próprio sexo, raça e idade. Um corpo humano é apenas um corpo humano e se transforma em Arte na forma como Yoko o mostra. ''Estamos sempre nos desculpando por sermos reais. Desculpe-me por peidar, desculpe-me por fazer amor e cheirar como um ser humano, em vez daquele príncipe e princesa inodoros que aparecem nas telas''. Ono, Yoko.
A série fotográfica 'Libertação do corpo' justifica-se como contraponto a narrativas pictóricas lineares e óbvias. A poética da minha pesquisa e dos meus trabalhos artísticos visa evitar valores estéticos e sociais arcaicos que foram professados na Grécia antiga e que ainda ditam a concepção contemporânea de beleza, elegância, graça, ética e sanidade. Neste ensaio abordei questões cotidianas da minha vida não só como Artista, mas também como ser humano. Já tive experiências com fotografia durante os meus anos de universidade, mas nunca como projeto artístico próprio.
Durante a pesquisa para o ensaio fotográfico, observei meu próprio corpo, examinei minha mente, expandi minha alma e repensei sobre o significado da existência da raça humana. Somos todos iguais e ao mesmo tempo temos tantas diferenças, mas ainda assim, todos pertencemos a uma única raça.
Com esta série auto-fotografada, trouxe uma fruição visual composta por elementos da atmosfera em que convivo e que me contamina.
No meu ponto de vista, a Arte deve compensar qualquer desaprovação social. Ela tem que ir muito além de julgamentos e tendências. Simultaneamente, a Arte deve violar o significado comum da “palavra” vida. Meu próprio vazio é expresso nesta série de fotos. Todo o meu trabalho e pesquisa é incentivado por um excesso de emoções que imploram para se materializar. Experimentei meu corpo durante o ensaio e, ao mesmo tempo, percebi-me vivenciando uma obra de arte que me preparou para a vida real, para o meu verdadeiro eu. Fiz coisas em um nível de representação distante e elevado antes mesmo de percebe-las “de verdade”. É disso que trata este projeto.
